Faithful Friends

There was an old saying that use to warn
True friends are not made but they are born
The trails of life being the ultimate test
To see what friends earn the title of best
When the chips are down and the road is rough
Faithful friends stay true when times are tough
They honestly desire what's best for you
There is almost no limit to what they will do
Take a look in the second chapter of Mark
And you will see true friends doing their part
There was a paralytic man, handicapped for years
His life full of troubles, struggles, and tears
The first thing to note is that he had friends
Who accepted him with his present condition?
The second thing was what they were all about
Looking after him and wanting to help him out
They heard about Jesus, that He was in town
He had a reputation of helping those who were down
He had healed the sick and gave sight to the blind
It was even said he raised the dead a couple of times
So being the type of friends they were
The presence of Jesus really caused a stir
They found out where Jesus was
And sprang into action like a true friend does
But when they got to the house they couldn't get in
Yet with purpose in hearts to help their friend
Without hesitation they went above and beyond
They didn't just sit like ducks in a pond
No way to go under, no way to go around
They tore a hole in the roof and lowered him down
What a friend we have in Jesus, that is so true
And what having Jesus believing friends will do
Faith filled and Holy Ghost driven
Faithful friends are divinely given
Consider if you will who you call friend
Are they heading to heaven, even dragging you in?
Would they tell you the truth that you don't want to hear?
Stand along and pray you through doubt and fear
Do they seek to see your soul saved and sealed in Christ
Read the story in the book of Mark once or twice
Then go to proverbs for more wisdom to choose
Get faithful, faith filled friends and you can't lose
