     “Her Voice”

He really wanted
to talk to
her today
or at the
very least
hear her voice
let those tones
and vibrations
that are belonging
to her
oscillate through
his head,
he would gladly
give up
a week’s pay
just to hear
a sentence
or two
of her words
in someone’s
else’s conversation,
but he hasn’t
even seen her
in almost a
year
leaving him
on that day
with a big
impish smile
on her face
that was meant
for somebody else
as she spun
around
on the heel
of her black
high top shoe
without a
thought
of ever looking
back at him
again
a staged scene
from her
“life is art”
world
that she lives
in,
a year later
and he’s still
holding on to
that stolen smile
still unaware
it wasn’t directed
at him
carelessly stepping
between her
emotions
and the guy
they were intended
for
then foolishly
turning
that miscue
of his
and that last
look
of hers
into something
it was never
meant to be,
a hijacked
smile
holding up
a broken
dream,
he’s really nothing
more
than an ignorant
common thief…
