In March (Finally, Spring 2016)

the chattering boy cat is fed
the other man still in bed

already I've painted
two minor masterpieces

life seems worthy
of its pursuits
when the birds sing
and the cat sighs
and I'm listening

I anticipate
the room's perfume
with the aroma of Sumatran coffee
(Tiger coffee I think...)

the balcony screen is ajar
a breeze passes through
lifting the fringed hem
of my batik blue mumu

the cat jumps up
and turns around twice
before he settles in

at dawn
the sky draped in pink
the early hush was mine for thinking
and the odors
that mostly tantalized my nose
were of apple blossoms
and lilacs

what a lovely shock
finally
Spring.
