I never saw that moment of loss coming; that moment when the unexpected took place. Once in a lifetime we find a special chemistry with that one person who becomes our only you. We were much the same; yet with subtle differences. Our love grew from chemistry to a long lasting relationship. I wish I would have known what was to come; but then I could never have changed what would be. If I had known, I would have made the same choice. You were a bright star shining your light into the dark chambers of my lonely and scarred heart; yet you were to become my one soul-matching mate. Even though you have passed, I still see your gentle face. Your broad grin brightened everyone that it shone upon. Were I God I would have chosen to let you stay with me; but the choice, of course, was always His choice to make. Love is not a big enough word to express our bond, to express what made our relationship so deep and strong. But your grace and your ability to live each day with joy still remain to keep me through the waves of my grief. Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
