Gracefully letting go
of the person you were
when with another
just may be
the most difficult
act of all.
For it is in
the release of
past experience
that we die to our
former self and death,
we learn, is
to be feared
above all else.
Yet, without freeing
that which is already gone
how can we emerge
a new being ready
to transform
in beauty as
the caterpillar
becomes the butterfly?
When we struggle
against the very thing
that can save us
we needlessly
lose our balance,
our joy, even
our identity.
Attachment to
what was robs us
of what is,
what can be.
And, we do it
to ourselves mostly
unknowingly, but
sometimes
by choice.
Letting go is
never promised
to be easy, but
it is the only path
to inner peace and
a brilliant future
yet to be
fulfilled.
