The Day You Left (Words From A Half-Remembered Dream)

I found you in a photograph
I reached out with my fingers
but could not feel the softness there
but the feeling of it
inside me lingers
the golden light shining in your bright eyes
the warmth in my beaming face
the joy contained within that space
the memory of it all
retraced
come back to me
come back to me
come back to me
even if its within the framework of a dream
for you were a dream to us
of charm and pleasure and all that was mostly serene
come back to me
come back to me
I want to hold you still
and drop my nose into your neck
and drink in your scent
until I'm refueled and filled
the vacancy you left
the day you left
will always remain unfilled
