Crows...writing exercise in honor of April /National Poetry month

they arrive...
the guests dressed
all in black
preening, and
earlier than someone with manners
should arrive

they clamor
loudly and boistrosly
for more when none has been laid
upon their table

tuxedoed crows,
you make me laugh
lightening me up from within

I feel I must know you

you are my long lost relatives
come to see me
to beg for the bounty
you know is freely yours

I give you only the best almonds
fit for such bird kings and queens
you are lovely company...
comical jesters dancing your
side long hops
and alighting in the trees
outside my window

its as if you are saying
now then,
I'm here to ask for breakfast
but I'd prefer to stay to dinner time

later on
at dusk
I watch you launch yourselves skyward
forming one continuing black winding sinew
towards your roosts downtown

its so lovely to daily have you around
and to see how you care
so much about your fellows

I imagine all of you as being one of my own
and then, I'm no longer alone
and have a  real family
one that would always love me
and not mind if I had the best manners
or made the finest show of my life
and only had one black outfit to wear...

I'd like to be a crow.
