The Backyard Of My Life

Doors Of Perception

Of truth and lie fact and fiction
Myths of holly grail
Pandora's box and moon dog rocks
A liberty ship sets sail
Keep on knocking at the doors of perception

A sea of whiskey twists and turns
Over a golden dawn
A bright white rose painted red
On pretty paper torn
An eye peeps through the key hole
Of the doors of perception

Desert clouds a smiling sphinx
Reflected in a little broken mirror
While lizards leap through talking trees
Then slowly disappear
Nothing is what it seems behind
The doors of perception

Patchwork roads unfold in to
A tapestry of time
Cast a shadow on the sun
On a dream that's never mine
Winding winds will lead you to
The doors of perception

At a house of wax where candles burn
The price of Persia protects
Some secret sacred stones
Then a pig with wings and a bee that sings
In to banana telephones
Tells him to get
Down on his knees at a thousand steps
Before the doors of perception

In seven days of torment and rage
Rivers run wild on mars
Plastic beetles spinning wheels
Driving flying cars
Look into electric eyes
Trying to see beyond the doors of perception

The man in the moon looking down
Watches history repeat
When at high noon the blazing sky
Tells tales of his defeat
A small china boat on a mantle piece
Only you can open up the doors of perception
