A Dog Should Have  His Tail...

*******************************************

A Dog should have his tail.
And friends. Plenty of pals.
Wolves had all the right ideas.
Communicate.
Get along.

What would it be like
if someone docked yours?
Deprived you of your best manner of speaking?
I think that would be most unwise.
And unkind.

Dogs are attentive.
I've seen them walking down the street
checking in with their Masters
in a methodical way...
Looking up
looking forward...
back and forth
from first the man's face
to their direction.
A kind of continual consultation.

Imagine if I brought a device with me.
Paid more attention to it.
Forgot your favorite ball at home.
Didn't notice I was looking up at you.
Ignored your barking or even worse
harnessed your mouth when you did?

Perhaps a dog behaves badly
because He isn't getting all
He requires.
All he deserves.
Perhaps it is the man who is
behaving badly?
The man who is thoughtless
and needs to be retrained?

Making the dog act like a perfect child,
letting the dog be himself
only when its at the man's convenience
is self-involved.
What wolf would conduct his affairs
in such a way?

Bad man.
Leave the ringing device at home.
Buy the dog a meaty bone.
Be his pal often.
His life with you is all too brief.
Enjoy the sour with the sweet...
and damn,
Give the dog his tail.

(DON'T YOU KNOW THE MAN IS JUST ANOTHER KIND OF
ANIMAL TOO?)
