********

the night train has awakened me
I thought I heard
a plaintive mew from beneath
the settee
the chair I was sitting in
has just turned itself around

this is not
where is our home?

night train
take us away from here
far from the pantomime of choice
at night
I find my voice
mixed with the wind

there was a time
when there were no ghosts
no souls preyed upon
by the host

I try to see the daylight
in the darkness
as the lark
has taken flight

night train take us away
through your magic tunnel
through the doorway of a new
station.
where the air is fresh and free
where no king's broad thumb
presses down on me.
so crushingily

night train
here so many pass
without a ticket
the least are the last
I'll say a prayer before you die,
give me a ticket,
before they take me away.
let me have
my final ride.
