Allegiance

in 2019 British troops are being prosecuted over actions taken in action during a long past campaign:  the opposing para military force
 were granted immunity from prosecution.

We took an Oath of Allegiance when
We accepted the Sovereign's shilling
Which meant we accepted,
If necessary, we were willing
To lay down our lives in
Our Nation's Defence
In spite of those politicians
Who, with little or no sense
Of gratitude or History,
Will stab us in the back
In the cause of expediency.
And when, in time,
We may face the situation,
Yesterday's terrorist become
Today's leader of his nation
Out oaths of allegiance mean
Not a thing as they prosper free
And some of us face the prospect
Of  prosecution,  no win no fee.
Justice should be even handed,
That's why she's pictured as blind,
Not just games of profit and expediency
Practised by the political and legal mind.
