Where were you when the Lord laid,
The foundation of the world;
And when Adam disobeyed,
Out of Eden he was hurled.
If you have understanding,
Who determined the decree;
What the Lord is demanding,
From everything you see.
Who determined measurements,
You must know who stretched the line;
And who made the improvements,
For a glorious divine.
On what were its bases sunk,
Or who laid the cornerstone;
Inspires when in a slump,
Comforts when you are alone.
When the morning stars all sang,
All the sons shouted for joy;
It sounded like the bells rang,
For glad tidings to employ.
Who shut the doors of the sea,
When it burst out of the womb;
Because of divine decree,
Before death locks in a tomb.
Who made the clouds its garment,
Thick darkness its swaddling band;
Who cause a disarmament,
From enemies in the land.
Who had prescribed the limits,
By setting the bars and doors;
Decrees what He prohibits,
Giving faith as hope restores.
Thus far you come no farther,
Here is where your waves have stayed;
So, listen to the Father,
No longer shall you have strayed.
For the Lord has commanded,
Mornings since your days began;
Caused as the dawn demanded,
All as spelled out in His plan.
Howbeit has the gates of death,
Ever been revealed to you;
Deep darkness after last breath,
No longer will you construe.
