Lonesome Love

Is this pretty much a universal poem, in that
we have all walked in these shoes or had similar feelings?
This poem isn't about any
one  person in particular..but maybe a composite...a sort
of creative hit and miss sketch based on my accumulation of
life experiences.

Sometimes, we wish for what we think we don't have and often, too,
don't realize how lucky we are and that we aren't all that miserable
but just momentarily in a fix. Yet sooner or later, things will work
themselves out.  This poem may be a bit of a pity party...we've all also
done that number on ourselves.

I have and you have and we all have been there. There meaning on the long
and dusty trail of life walking to and from some lonesome love.
*******************************************************

Lonesome love
you tell yourself you've got an "In"
but you're mostly on your own
or on the outs

you do the laundry
you pay the bills
somehow still
no notice of the smiles
only the frowns and the pouts

who's ever really home
who's  watching television
who's talking on the computer
or on the phone

you
what do you do
lonesome love,
you write a poem

lonesome love

do you feel the sting
are you an obligation
obliged to crumbling crumbs
are you the warmed up
the leftovers
no more salutations
what's settled at the bottom of the sieve
not what's around and above

is this the new truth
is this the abnegation
its in the absence and the silence
its in the long over-shadowed
in the extended longing
in the nagging anticipation of the end
in the name of ache and neediness
withing the wounds
all of this is stowed

lonesome love

you cry
because you're lonely
because you're loathe-some
because you're lost
maybe because
you've lost the will
to go or to go on

you cry because
you know you've many more seeds
even when you've already sown them
you've memorized your favorite lines
and the worn down words
to every love song

lonesome love

its hard to be one who has a need
its harder yet to have the itch
its hardest more to be the needier one
to be thought of not as the plus
but to be the lack
ready to ditch

your words hang limply in the air
your words echo off bare walls
your words are pantomimes
meaningless puppet shows
without an audience
where do you go

there are no ears to hear them
there is no mind to sweetly mind
there is a dearth of mortifying silence
in the mile-long stare
little of you left to find

lonesome love
my honeyed dove
coo-cooing
to a summer's high moon above

are you out of reach
maybe out of time
fruit much older
about to whither
on the dying vine

don't lose your verve
jump off the curb
bite the bit
and keep in line

lonesome love
honeyed dove
soon another lover
might saddle up to
move and soothe you

hold tightly
onto your own heart
sure as the stars
there will be light
against the odds
you will survive.

********************

children feel this way
people in families feel this way
people in peer groups feel this way
people in life feel this way
people in love feel this way

love and loss are the two sides
of one coin...you cannot have one without
the other...you have to have the negative to
appreciate the positive...you don't know
what joy is unless you've experienced sorrow.

hope this finds you friend and reader...
thinking about this topic and on the sunnier side of life.
