The Backyard Of My Life
Yellow Sky (Blue Smoke On The Bay)
Its was a cold dark day in November
The last thing i remember
Was blue smoke sweeping softly across the bay
i was half way up the mountain
Drinking water from the fountain
Then the sun rise burst out into a brand new day
When a girl said watch me while i skeleton dance
Then she did the robot walk
She said i like the way you boogie boy
I like the way you talk to me
While the fires burning bright
Silhouetted in starlight
There was a fork in the road for the snake doctor circus
So we hitched a ride down to new Orleans
Somewhere in the city the path deserts us
Next to parking ticket machines
There was a mardi gras under a yellow sky
Freedom and love in a pink motel
I thought i saw a white dove cry
On the night that the empire fell
Steel wheels still spinning with life in a suitcase
She moved like a shock wave through San Francisco
With glitter and paint on her face
Walking on golden stars up in the Hollywood hills
She was popping pills and burning down the disco
With a silver flame and half of a cigarette
Looking back i may forgive but i doubt i will ever forget
There were twists and turns to the motorcycle club
I thought i would never find my way back
With an old address written on a ticket stub
The house of mirrors starts to crack
When rain falls down from the yellow sky
Catch some sunlight in your hands
Deliver us all to peace and love to the promised land
When the girl with a rose tattoo
Said listen while i sing to you
Let me be your twenty century lady
Out laws in a troubled town
Never knowing when someone will shoot you down
Simply for being alive and feeling like we do
So we moved to California where winter never comes
Drilling for oil carrying the tons
Of perfect pressure don't think twice about yesterday
Under a yellow sky when there's blue smoke on the bay
