Heart Beat

A heart does not only beat
Once
With every beat
Blood flows in
Then flows out

In the morning she wakes
I wake a little after
She says “Good morning sweetie”
I reply in kind
I kiss her on the cheek
Before she leaves for work
She kisses me on the forehead
On the way out the door

Later she comes back home
I kiss her on the lips
After she is settled
She kisses me back
We eat together
Maybe watch TV together
Later that night
We shower separately
The go to bed together
And sometimes
I give her all my love
And in turn
She gives every ounce she has
As well

A heart does not only beat
Once
For every beat
Blood flows in
Then flows out

Yes
Our hearts beat as one
Together
For 50 years

Then she was called to go home
To be with the rest of her family

And I am left here
In a world full of shadows
With an empty heart
Frozen
Waiting for that next beat
To fill my heart
With her love again
