A Modern dichotomy:
Should the English retreat
Leaving the Irish to fight
Until one side admits defeat.
A history of oppression,
Carried on to this day.
No thought of compromise,
Of seeking a middle way.
Sectarianism rules
Which seems so odd
As Christian kills Christian
In the cause of a one God.
Would it be kinder
To let them fight to the kill
Maybe forcing a spirit
Of concession and good will.
Maybe such a solution
Would bring a release
King Billy and the bombers
Could finally live in peace.
Should the English retreat
Leaving the Irish to fight
Until one side admits defeat.
A history of oppression,
Carried on to this day.
No thought of compromise,
Of seeking a middle way.
Sectarianism rules
Which seems so odd
As Christian kills Christian
In the cause of a one God.
Would it be kinder
To let them fight to the kill
Maybe forcing a spirit
Of concession and good will.
Maybe such a solution
Would bring a release
King Billy and the bombers
Could finally live in peace.
