August 14, 2018 SSDI appeal filed by another attorney
He would not take my case then but did it as a courtesy
Lack of medical records, he agreed with denial determination
Advised neurological exam and vocational rehabilitation
My doctor referred me to a neurologist for examination
But did not concur with the voc rehab recommendation
She has supported my inability to work from the beginning
Based on all my medical conditions adversely progressing
Brain MRI with some white matter disease typical with age
Normal exam overall and no cause for concern at this stage
I had told neurologist about trouble sleeping and focusing
She sent me back to my doctor for any further evaluating
Mid October 2018 received social security denial notification
Reconsideration phase agreed with previous determination
60 days to secure legal counsel and file request for hearing
Not much time with holidays and winter quickly approaching
I contacted my doctor to prepare a statement of disability
Summarizing my medical conditions and my work inability
When I reviewed her letter, I wrote down some corrections
Finally, made an appointment to reach an agreed finalization
I found a local SSDI attorney online with over 40 reviews
When he returned my call, he refused to take my case too
I asked him the reason why, which he gave in an indirect way
He wished me well and provided me with some tips anyway
In December, I filed the request for hearing documentation
Notating that I had not yet secured legal representation
Then I mistakenly waived the 90 day notification for hearing
Upon being told hearings take up to 18 months in scheduling
It was a tough winter, I only got out to church and the store
My goal was to wait until spring to pursue an attorney more
March 2019, SSDI notice arrived with April 22 for hearing day
April 8, met with an attorney who took my case right away
He was booked that day and told me to request an extension
I mailed in the form that I would not be attending with reason
It was granted in about a week with notice of 90 days set
May 2019 new hearing date with August 14 at 2:00 on it
Something familiar about that date caught my eye
Couldn't figure it out, but later discovered why
Looking at last year's journal of appointments
August 14, stanza one above, it became apparent
Other times God has used dates on my disability journey
Reminders not only of my parents who are now in eternity
But God is in control and He has a reason for everything
According to His infinite plan and precisely detailed timing
Last year on August 14, God closed the door for that attorney
It is like God said, My child, your case is not ready yet, trust Me
Then on April 8, when the attorney took my case right away
God reminded me He has been with me each step of the way
I met with the attorney in June for a pre-hearing meeting
He asked me types of questions the judge will be addressing
Some of my responses were rocky, which he gave me pointers
Not to instruct me what to say, but explaining legal matters
The paralegal for the attorney has been my primary contact
She has been helpful in answering questions by her input
One day I stopped by with some medical records for my file
Met with her briefly face to face, definitely worthwhile
I asked for a copy of my doctor's residual functional capacity
She said my low weight lifting score will help my disability
Showed her my spine pain doctor's notes with his endorsement
She appreciated that update also and gave positive comments
In June, she suggested a psychiatric exam before my hearing
My doctor wrote letter instead for neuro-psychology testing
Test is booked out until November but she did order sleep study
Home test showed obstructed sleep apnea result end of July
Lord, surround me with Your peace throughout the hearing
Let the words I say be spoken clearly and with truth revealing
Guide my attorney in his representation in all that entails
Lead the judge in his ruling and may Your ultimate will prevail
