Embers

I never knew the art of loss until I lost you.
How deep does this sorrow run;
Is it everlasting or merely a season?
You used me.
Defiled me.
Set ablaze the strongest pieces of me.
Watched the embers glow until they turned to ash
Then you walked away as they fell and covered the ground with me.
I needed you
Craved you
Demanded all of you,
But all you gave were pieces
Fragments of a life I had to reassemble.
I needed you to fight for me,
I wish it were that easy.
My heart aches to burn for you again.
