Dragon

In a distant land of flame and endless night
Dwell saurian creatures of fearsome might.
Kin to salamanders of elemental power,
Beneath their gaze mere mortals cower.

Keen intelligence gleams in their eyes;
As spreading wings they seek the skies.
Soaring aloft on an errant breeze;
Aerial hunters as their quarry flees.

In this nightmare realm of eternal dark;
From whence mythical creatures are said to hark
Dragons rule with capricious whim
O'er all that walk, fly, or swim.

There man is not master but merely prey
Of monstrous beasts that rend and slay.
There man's feeble science holds no sway
And magic reigns on a sunless day.
