We have this treasure,
In a jar of clay;
That God does measure,
How much we obey.
Surpassing power,
That belongs to God;
Spending each hour,
To honor and laud,
We are afflicted,
In every way;
Being addicted,
Causing to stray.
For we are perplexed,
But not to despair;
Crushed being reflexed,
Becomes a nightmare.
Struck down but not out,
Never forsaken;
Because of no doubt,
I am awaken.
Always carrying,
The body of death;
And not varying,
With every breath.
For we who live are,
Been given above;
As a shining star,
Because of His love.
The life of Christ may,
Be manifested;
Living on each day,
Being invested.
So that works in us,
Giving life in you;
With the same as thus,
If your spirit is true.
Not to look of things,
On earth that is seen;
Rather what God brings,
That have been unseen.
