Fruit Market Quartet - Humber Street

Once the Centre or the wholesale
Fresh fruit vegetable flower trade
Grim looking warehouses where
Early morning deals were made
Keeping buyers and vendors
Living life on the frantic hop
In the  daily mad rush to supply
supermarket and small shop.
Now those old premises
Have been replaced
Or been renovated
Tidied up and refaced
To become galleries, cafes and bars
On the resurfaced paved street
Al fresco  drinking facilities making
The transforcmation complete.
The street is alive again
Now in a very different way
A place for relaxing after
A hard working day.
The Old Docks of the city
That first made it prosper there
Are redundant but the river
smell  still hangs in the air
past merging with the present
Giving pause to think
A place for a Sunday morning stroll
And to enjoy nice open aIr drink Fruit
