Expect Yourself

she wants out
she wants in
without a doubt

she's already started on her wings
she's made her nest
let's be done
let's start again

now I'm the praying mantis
she fears
is it me?
she doesn't quite
know why

is there an invisible tattoo
on her sallow speckled arm
one only seen in the dark
glowing golden on her skin
"I'VE GOT TO ESCAPE"
or
have I
read it too
in her green eyes
her signal lights up
the pedal's to the floorboard
another journey to begin

always negotiating for her way out
the sharpie makes a deal
the gambler bluffs
not sure I'm certain what
the debate's about
its an ill wind that rises
then dies out

to be the one, unproven
to be the one who needs to re-align
within our history
I remind her
I'm not her past
has she mistaken me
for some other person
she left behind

some minds get slammed
some minds get flooded
my mind, at times, is over-whelmed

her lines make me sad
I'm not her ghost
I thought her familiar
our deck's been shuffled
the earthquake's happened
the debris is all around

why
do we have this condition
its not necessary
when there's love
present and ready to settle us
onto the ground

instead the mist
instead the tears
when we could grow our garden
of delights
of comforts
all around

hey--
you don't need my permission
you can be your own person
you don't have to drown

expect yourself
look in your mirror
there you are
I like your smile
I also respect
your frown.

TIDBIT-- IN the 80's I used to wear mostly all black. One day after I washed
my clothes I realized...there are different shades of black. I examined my clothes
and none of the black colors matched exactly...they were from different dye-lots...
and so it is with people. No one person is like the other exactly...there might be
a few similarities. But that's all. Expect the unexpected. And Expect yourself...
the one and only you. When another person Expects YOU...then you got it made in the shade honey.
