Life is Unadorable

Life is un-adorable--
We have to kill to live
The pig died for bacon
The steer died for steak
The carrots yanked out
Of the earth to feed hungry
Humans--the ancients understood
This and told stories that celebrated
And honored the mystery of food-we
Clip coupons and wonder why life
Doesn't seem to make any sense any more--
There is a goddess waiting in the avocados
