Sometimes In Losing I Have Gained A Lot

what do I get
when I have to be agreed with
nothing

sharp words
bring sad thoughts
and resentments
intentions not meant
in angry sentences

what do I get
when I am not always right
peace
sweet swift relief
and the tender balm of sleep
knowing I've succumbed
and let go of the outcome
so what needs to happen
can be done

practice doesn't make perfect
adherence to expectations
can drive those you want near
away
you cannot always be sane
but you can compromise and have it mean
I'm not indifferent
let's make a difference
together
I'm sorry
I put you so out

I care
I'm aware where
I failed to begin
there will be times
when I must be the first
to make ammends

sometimes losing's for the best
sometimes in losing
I have gained a lot

(I want you as my friend...)
