CRUMBLE SWEET

Crumble sweet, the horrid hare
That tumbles on the sweets like ants
Cheerful day's what we deserve
To pinch and eat and waste.

No life of such can just a mite
Of language hint at all describe
If life is an amusement park
You have to think and think again.

Not just the wear, not just the meal
Not the things that fanciful be
But of the stuff; the stuff of kings
Remind me of the worthier things.

If life were to be what you see
Would men rise to build a house
Or garnish such a garden blest
Where you now stay and fold your arms.

Let's know the sum, let's know the real
Let's know the things that count, dear being
Does it remind you any bit,
That eternity is but real?
