When Giants Walked

It was a long time ago when giants walked the land;
When men for their beliefs would take a firm stand.
A time when courage and honor abounded,
And men for their opinions were never hounded.

Now each word, be they written or spoken
Must fit unseen rules which cannot be broken.
We must never offend through action or deed;
Must never bruise feelings or cause them to bleed.

So now men hesitate to put thought into word;
They peacefully wander, just part of the herd.
Few stand in defiance of the current trend,
And I wonder where this winding path will end.
