Till Life Got in the Way
At one time you seemed happy
But that was yesterday
When you appeared to have no cares
Till life got in the way.
But to show yourself as otherwise
Would not have been your style
For when you came around it seemed
You always wore a smile.
But when the weight of tragedy
Proved more than you could bear
You made a fast retreat from life
Into your private lair.
But perhaps that choice was most unwise
Since a loner you've become
And detachment fosters loneliness
Which is hard to overcome.
But only you can come to terms
With the sadness that you feel
And rise above the captive spell
That makes your world surreal.
Yes, though you've had your share of grief
Which belongs to yesterday
You again can be that man who smiled
Till life got in the way.
