 ramblings and things

All in the cause of Art

In the centre of our city
They are digging up the streets
To get safely from points a to b
 At times a considerable feat.
There are plastic barriers here
Plastic barriers there
Red and white plastic barriers
Almost everywhere
Even barriers encircling barriers
In certain visible cases
No apparent reason for
The choice of such places.
They say it's in preparation
For our City of Culture year
Which as the months pass
Draws ever more near.
Sit back in anticipation
As I reveal a surprise:
It's our City's entry for
Next year's Turner Prize.
An artistic happening
Not quite yet ready
But can be done on time
If the progress is steady.
Once won by a pile of bricks which,
Although it looked quite neat,
Can't hold a candle to
A whole City's central streets.
We are a forward thinking City
Already breaking new ground
With our artistic working entry
Scattered in the streets around.
Speculate to accumulate,
That's what our  city's done:
Will those scoffers still be scoffing
When that Turner Prize is won.
All in the cause of Art
I'll put up with the cost
Of wandering once known streets
Quite often almost lost,
For
These days
Our city Centre is just
An unmapped maze.
All hail our City Council for
Their forward thinking part
In tearing up our streets
In the cause of Modern Art
