The Stones, the Beatles, Rock and Roll
Nashville, Motown, Detroit and Soul,
Twiggy and Quant, the minis,
Both the skirt and the car,
Flower Power, Summer of love,
Women's lib, burn your bra,
Woodstock that paved the way
For many festivals of today.
The Cuban Crisis came along
Inspiring Dylan's Hard Rains song:
Civil rights, Kennedy and King
White supremacy a passing thing,
And locally other things in store,
The Processed Pea opended its door.
From a single era all this and more
No period like it seen since or before
Can there really ever have been
Such a decade for a growing teen.
Just a sixties summary as I say
As this evening gets under way.
