Checkout Chat

The things you hear at
The store checkout
It must be all the stress of
That walking slowly about
Looking for things in places
Where they aren't anymore
For the Management recently
 Have reorganised the store.

Sitting there stone faced
Showing not a flicker
As the stressed couple
Mutter and bicker:
And I'm waiting
For that night
When a couple
Start to fight.

Just a little compensation
For sitting almost still
Working there for hours
On the checkout till.
I think sometimes they forget
It's a human sitting there
Or perhaps these days maybe
They just no longer care.

It really is an education
For a sheltered life like mine
  Quietly working there
On that checkout line.
And at times I must confess
Married life has had a thrill
Trying out some of the things
Heard when working on the till.
