The Parent of the Prodigal

You've heard the story of the prodigal son
The demands he made and the things he'd done
We still have those kids today
Who want to do things they own way
You dedicate your life to supply their needs
You sacrifice your wants to help them succeed
You labor in prayer both day and night
For the wisdom and patients to raise them right
They might say they love and honor you
But their actions suggest that's not true
At a certain age a switch goes on
That tells them their parents are wrong
Their friends and idols are the heroes now
And just like that you have lost your child
Ever consider the father in that tell
How he handle that situation so well
He didn't argue, he didn't fight
Even though he knew he was right
He even gave his son what he ask
Knowing he was not up to the task
Was that faith or foolishness
To allow his son to leave like this
We always focus on how he took him back
But what did it take to let him leave like that
What did it take to surrender his control?
Give in to his foolishness and let him go
Knowing firsthand the dangers and pitfalls
Still put up no fight at all
I believe it was faith, big time faith
That led the father to react that way
Knowing his son was not his own
But simply given to him on loan
And his true Father, who sees and know all
Would be there to catch him when he did fall
Who's limitless power and ability
Stretch far beyond what he could see
As a man that must have been hard to do
It never mentions a mother, but I imagine her too
Could it be that parenthood is design that way?
To take us to new levels of faith
Like it or not, we have no choice
But to trust in God and listen for his voice
