Ladder to Heaven

Could I build a ladder that reached so high,
To pierce the clouds that veiled the sky,
Could I mount this ladder far above the earth;
Gazing down on the world that gave me birth.

On all its majesty to marvel and view;
Still none could match the wonder of you.
To stretch forth my hand and touch a star;
Beckoning, shining above the world so far;

Though amazing, this thrill would be tame
Compared to the rapture of your name.
Could I spread wings and soar like a bird;
It would not compare to your voice I heard.

For you I would challenge the demons of hell;
Defy countless odds and enemies fel.
You are gentle, amazing, wondrous and kind;
Meant for me from time out of mind.
