Why am I haunted by the unanswered
questions you've been asked?
I long for you to give me
what I want, what I need.
You cannot.
You will not.
Selflessly I push until I bleed
emotion upon the page
and you, in your detached way,
ask me why I am complaining.
You punish me.
You withhold you.
Why do you try to gaslight me
when you know how intelligent I am?
Do you really think I do not know
my own heart and the words I've shared?
You avoid.
You deflect.
This hold you have on me is a sickness
and I'm dying from neglect.
Yet I keep coming back for the times
you offer me sweet medicine.
You charm.
You feign love.
Just when I'm ready to call it quits
the intrigue worms its way back into
my psyche convincing me that
I must be imagining it all…
You are toxic.
And I am finally
through.
