Gongs

I don't wear any medals
It's not that I don't care
It's just that my medals
Are just for being there.
Not for acts of courage
Or for selfless deeds
Just being there to help
Fulfill the nations needs.
Not for seeing action nor
for campaigns on the ground
But just for being there
Just For being around.
I call them chocolate. medals
You can buy them by the ton
Only on very special occasions
Do I bother to put them on,
They don't have any purpose
Or reflect any lessons learned
I think they just demean
medals others bravely earned
I didnt see any combat but
I Was there and did my best
So I stand proudly with the Veterans
Unashamed of my gongless  chest
