Confession

I was lost as last year's Easter egg
Having drifted well off track
Much like the carefree plowman who
Was killed when he looked back.

Not fully willing to commit
To what I knew was right
I rushed on with abandon toward
The doom of endless night.

Having left the Lord so long ago
While blaming hypocrites
When all I really wanted was
A reason to call it quits.

Though I knew life was uncertain
And to folly I was bent
I ignored the growing urgency
That I must needs repent.

I continued to make excuses
As to why I left the fold
To live a life of recklessness
And gamble with my soul.

But thank God, I have been reclaimed
My obedience was the key
No longer like that Easter egg
Or the plowman so carefree.
