The Daily Scum

He read the Daily Scum
Just as he'd been taught
And he followed its every word
On comings and goings in sport.
And every penny of its price
Went to make a rich man richer
While it gave to its readers
A very distorted picture.

It paid homage to the queen,
Respect for the very wealthy,
Promoting a general ignorance
That really wasn't healthy,
Taught gratitude for just existing,
Respect for so called betters,
And it never used words
That had too many letters,

Prudence for the poor,
And, a twist to the story
Preached the rewards of
The worker voting Tory.
And so the poor got poorer,
The rich waxed exceeding fat,
And the owner of the Scum
Was pleased and proud at that.

Living in tax exile with
The luxury wealth affords
And once or twice a year took
His  seat in the House of Lords.
And so it came to be,
Just like an ancient fable,
The turkey went and voted for
A place on the kitchen table.
