Poetic Verses

Century from Today

What if you could return to Earth
A century from today
To the neighborhood where you once lived
Would you fast be on your way?

Knowing all your friends and loved ones
Had long ago passed on
Leaving memories to burden you
With grief to bear alone.

Alone as an intruder
Where nothing looks the same
And to add insult to injury
No one would know your name.

You would seem an uninvited guest
From a different time in space
Perceived as odd and curious
And clearly out of place.

So, to ask again, would you go back
A century from today
Knowing everything you knew and loved
Had long since passed away?

I doubt that you would do that
Not even if you could
Go back there as a stranger to
That long-gone neighborhood.
