Counting Calories

Just lose weight
My doctor said
Or you could end up
Prematurely dead.
But life is hard
When you're on a diet
As you'll soon find out
If you try it.

Do calories come
In differing sizes
For their counting
Causes so many surprises
Large chunk of some things
Having virtually  none
A  smidgin of others
 One thousand and one.

I've cut down my meals
From huge mounds
And managed to lose
Thirty eight pounds
It seemed to me
In an instant
My body became
Calorie resistant.

My immunity now
Seems to have gone
And the pounds are slowly
Creeping  back on.
Do calories exist
Or an invention made
By some clever b
In the diet food trade?

Is my slim trim shape
Just elusive dreams
Based on some clever
Money making scheme.
But I supposeI'll just
Have to keep on trying
The alternative being
Growing fat
And dying.
