The Void

Sad Little Playground

In this sad little playground, there
are no noises to be heard, no laughter no
giggles, no toys to be played with;
or children to be found.

Spider webs grow on swings and slides
as the overtakes everything. All there
is stillness, for there is no sound
in this sad little playground.

Swings away on a slight summer breeze
and the gates are locked, as people
stay away.
Isolating in their homes, waiting for
a brighter day.

The roundabouts no longer spin around
as there are no youngsters challenging
each other to hold on tight.

In this sad little playground, there
is only darkness, where once, there was
light. Rusted gates, locked with chains.

Signs posted, telling people to stay away.
One day people will be welcomed back.
Children will return again, to a place where they can play.

There's no litter to be found, no bottles
thrown carelessly on the ground. Bins empty of
human waste. Animals in the park scavenge for
food. But there's not a scrap to be eaten, with
no humans around.

In this sad little playground, you'll find an
empty space. As children can not play here, because
they have to stay at home in their rightful place.

Everything is different now, will it ever be the same?
The world has been thrown into chaos, and they have no
place to roam.

All the children have gone home.

They are looking out their windows,
at the silent world outside. Wishing that they could see their family and friends.
As we as a society divide.

This sad little playground, where children used to play.
Swings stand abandoned and no longer sway.
Signs are posted on a fence, telling everyone to stay away.

One day, things will be back as they should be.
We will come together, and see family and friends.
We'll show how much we missed them.

The playgrounds will be open again, and we will all
be free.
