As a deer pants for flowing streams,
So pants your soul for our God;
A longing for God as it seems,
Worshipping to honor and laud.
For our souls will thirst for God,
Before God when we come to appear;
Ashamed of how we have been flawed,
We need to repent and revere.
For the living God sheds His tears,
His tears have been your food today;
While they say to you of your fears,
“Where is your God that you obey?”
When you remember all these things,
As you are pouring out your soul;
How glad shouts and a praise song brings,
While the Lord will gain control.
Why do You cast down my soul, Lord?
Why are You has caused turmoil;
My pleas have seemed to be ignored,
That has caused me stressful toil.
Hope in God praise for salvation,
But my soul is cast down in me;
Cornerstone for my foundation,
Opening my eyes for to see.
Deep calls unto deep at the roar,
The noise made by the waterfalls;
Breakers and waves flowing to pour,
They billow out over my calls.
The Lord commands His steadfast love,
And at night His song is with me;
For the prayer to God up above,
About my life that has to be.
I say to God who is my rock,
“Why have you just forgotten me?”
“Why am I mourning for the flock,
That has been opposed to be free.”
For a deadly wound with a sword,
My adversaries taunting me;
All the day long, “Where is your Lord?”
“Why are they unable to see?”
Hope in God I shall again praise,
Being my God and salvation;
The health of my countenance stays,
Making me a new creation.
