What does it mean, “Christ ascended?”
Did He float up into the sky?
But that He also descended,
Lower parts not seen with the eye.
He who descended is the One,
Also ascended far above;
Up to Heaven who is the Son,
That He might have filled us with love.
And He gave to His apostles,
The prophets and evangelists;
Preachers in teaching the details,
The truth from Scripture that exists.
For the perfecting of the saints,
Of the work of the ministry;
With abiding without complaints,
Clearing up any mystery.
The body of Christ to build up,
Of the faith as to attain;
In unity drinks from the cup,
That the blood of Christ we maintain.
The knowledge of the Son of God,
To the matured and perfect man;
To measure the stature to laud,
The fullness of Christ in His plan.
We may be children no longer,
Being tossed to and fro by waves;
Makes the wind of doctrine stronger,
Saving us from sin as its slaves.
Human cunning by deceitful schemes.
Whereby they lie wait to deceive;
The reality of their dreams,
Persuading others to believe.
Rather speaking the truth in love,
We grow up in every way;
In Him who is the head above,
Shows us how preventing to stray.
From whom the whole body has joined,
Together by every joint;
Working properly to be coined,
As the body grows to anoint.
