Elise, Elise

so fast to frowns
from smiles to upside down
Elise, Elise

fine fair hair
blankets of care
mile-wide blue-eyed stare
Elise, Elise

transformed
to be turned out
another girl from the
wonder wheel
Betty Crocker approved
edges removed

Elise, Elise
you're quite the sliver
of cherry pie
no whip, no frills
but the remade girl
to catch the prize

enough to stir
a Mother's pride
enough to make
the eyes assess--
and eyebrows rise

Elise,Elise
why still
do you possess such a will
and refuse to smile?
