Game I Used to Play

I stopped by the old softball field
On a cold and windy day
And recalled my frenzied passion for
A game I used to play.

The bleachers were all empty
Nobody was around
And other than a hiss of wind
There hardly was a sound.

I strolled around the diamond
Pausing briefly at third base
The red-hot corner I so loved
Which was a busy place.

But time can often devastate
As well as warm the hearts
Of those who step out on the stage
And haply play their parts.

Yes, the memories rushed back to me
That cold and windy day
As I recalled a passion for
A game I used to play.
