Grace Park Elementary School – Unit II. Miss Lourdes Sp. Reyes was one of my teachers in Grade 5
and obviously my most favourite
so I was entirely jubilant when I found out
that she would be my adviser in June 1972.
The huge educational institution I was in
is full of happy youthful memories
I was always her Miss Helpful awardee
as I came early with excitement
cleaning, watering the plants and played.
I really enjoyed the class as a whole
and appreciated each day with her on it.
She taught with dignity, with inspiration
and everyone engaged in we truly loved her.
Then Martial Law was declared on September 21.
My dad who worked at a Gun Store in Manila
suddenly lost his job as assistant of the employer
businesses were forced to close down at once.
In the process, my mom terminated our house helper
the flow of money became difficult and irregular.
Out of my will mom said I’d move out to another school
I wished not to leave my beloved place anymore.
Saying goodbye to Miss Reyes was the hardest to do
I burst in tears and my dear teacher almost lost it all.
I missed her a lot as well as my dear friends
I garnered in Grace Park as a kid.
In the course of time, she communicated with me
giving me the will to be strong and reach for my dreams.
Amidst loneliness I look at her photographs
she never left my mind, she is always in my heart.
