Shield Maiden

Crimson hair streaming like battle banner
Fierce determination and steadfast manner.
Sparkling eyes flashing an inner fire
Burning brightly like a funeral pyre.

Whether on land or borne on restless tide
Shields held firm as their foes died.
Whether worshipping Odin, Thor, or Tyr
Warrior women immune to fear.

Ward to Norsemen and baresark alike;
Protecting against sword thrust or even pike.
Riding a red wave of slaughter and blood
Crashing gainst foemen like a sharp edged flood.

I wonder, if such women still lived today,
Would bloodlust lead them to slaughter and slay?
Or would it have cooled and faded with time,
So now they craft verses of lyrical rhyme.
