Her dreamless state
Replaced by dreaming
And then the nightmare
That sets her screaming
As she fought
For sanity's sake
To kill the dreams
And snap awake.
The dreaded voice
Quietly whispered no,
Nightmare ceased,
Sleep began to flow.
A measureless pause
Until when
The quiet voice
Spoke again.
The nightmares started
Their act of mental rape
As she lay trapped
Unable to escape
Lying there quietly
Eyes firmly closed
Deeply unconscious
Deeply comatose.
The machine creaks
And sighs day after day
Mechanically staving
Imminent death away.
No sign of life so
Is it really fair
To artificially keep
Bodies suspended there
Would they still do this
If they but knew
The mental turmoil that
She's being put through,
Trapped In that void
Twixt life and death,
Dependent on machines for
Every single intake of breath.
