The Storm

from outer fringes of my balcony sky
clouds filling in
there's a lowering
the firmament glowering
the lightning filtering flickering in

darkness tickers
dark and light exchanges
twinkle twankles and jiggers
the ebony curtains widened
the world is split open to the sight

somewhere a thirteenth mile away
it approaches
it encroaches
the gathering of black growing line
like a gathering wing of bats
right above us
the sky moves and shudders
the silences sliced and shattered
the swirling cloud fingerlet downward smatters
the dank droplets splatter
the grey-green sky wails
and buckets down upon us streaks of hail

God is speaking
I am listening
huddle-watching from
my baclonied window
the trees and branches
bent over near breaking
like a reaching hand of slivering sails.
