If I Had Only Known
If I Had Only Known
I Remember so clear
that last day in May
the last I love you
that you would ever say
How could I have known
that with one breath
Our precious love
Would meet an untimely death
I remember our walk
on the Georgia street
I can still feel the cobblestone
beneath my feet
I feel your hand in mine
your arm about me tight
Oh how could I have known
it to be our final night
I would have never imagined
it would be the last night
I would lay by your side
and you would hold me tight
If I had only known
the daily hurt was to begin
would I have done differently
at the start would I have let you in
Oh the unknown road
I was about to embark
I had no idea
my life could be so dark
Never would I have dreamed
that final day in May
The hell you soon would place
in my life to forever stay
Your reasoning why
Oh how can I know
When silence is all you give
with each crashing blow
Your actions say be gone
Yet you cling dearly to our only tie
What is it you are after
There are no more tears when I cry.
I have spent them all
on pain you insist to cast
I just want to be set free
to return to my past
If I had only known
the pain that was about to stay
If I had only known
I woud not have let you in that day
Oh if I had only known....

ღ God asked me how long I planned on keeping you in my life.
I smiled and said...
How do I choose between always and forever...
But then I have found that's really not up to me... ღ
