Poetic Verses

Epitome of Greed

They're said to be quite grasping
An epitome of greed
Whose god became their bank account
And worldliness their creed.

Much like the foolish rich man
Who would tear down his barn
And build a bigger one to hold
Surpluses from his farm.

And in spite of everything they own
Their desire is having more
Of earthly goods and carnal things
They never had before.

And since they have no room for God
Or plans to serve the King
They dare not waste their energy
On such a pointless thing.

For they're too busy chasing it
The object of their lust
That all-empowering dollar bill
In which they place their trust.

And as they live "high on the hog"
Their children want for naught
Being lavished in material things
Yet of Christ, they've not been taught.

But hopefully, the day will come
When they will realize
That amassing heavenly treasure is
True wisdom in God's eyes.

But for now, they are called grasping
An epitome of greed
Whose god remains their bank account
And worldliness their creed.
