Opportunities
When avoiding family gatherings
You only cheat yourself
Because with every passing year
Who knows who will be left?
But regardless of your reasoning
Life has no guarantees
So why would you not seize upon
Those opportunities?
For the chickens will come home to roost
Should you tarry till too late
Then you will understand the hurt
Your absence did create.
And that's like cutting off your nose
To simply spite your face
When you deliberately abstain
Which looks to be the case.
So if that's true, please lay aside
Your foolish reasons why
And make those family gatherings
Before they pass you by.
